Harrington was the best-known socialist in the United States during his lifetime,[9] in recognition of which the City University of New York established “The Michael Harrington Center for Democratic Values and Social Change” at Queens College.[10]

I saw Michael Harrington speak, along with some younger socialist, when I was at Berkeley (1980s). He seemed pathetic and lost, and had a bit of a mania for trains. More trains would save us and usher in Socialism! Or maybe socialism plus rural trainification equals communism? I don’t quite remember.
